Norfolk Island

© Google Maps

Today Pegman takes us to the remote former penal colony Norfolk Island.  As always, feel free to use the location to inspire you in any way you wish. There’s no actual street view here, but there are photo sphere pictures as well as a great deal of archival photography.  We do ask you keep it to 150 words as a gesture of respect for your readers and the rules. It’s safe to say that every writer needs practice leaving things out anyway ;-).

Have fun and do your best.  If you have any suggestions for where to send Pegman next, feel free to drop us a line.

Littleton, West Virginia

Littleton, West Virginia © Google Maps

This week Pegman returns to the Western Hemisphere to take us on a tour of Littleton, West Virginia. I can’t help but wonder if the Google facial recognition algorithm took the four blurred items on the porch to be faces. And I hope they weren’t severed human heads. Okay, getting ahead of myself–it’s not quite Halloween yet.

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to write a story inspired by the location, with a max word count of 150 words. Feel free to wander about the location and capture your own view of Littleton for your story.

Casablanca, Morocco

Casablanca, Morrocco © Google Maps

First a big thank you to everyone who participated in last week’s prompt. It was great seeing familiar faces and meeting new writers. Hope this week’s location proves as inspiring.

This week Pegman wanders over to the ancient city of Casablanca, Morocco. Looks like this particular location was discovered by Google contributor Raiss Toufik.

I had trouble locating actual streetview in Casablanca, but if you visit the link and hover your Pegman over the map, you’ll find a number of photo spheres to inspire you. I even came across some of the interactive sort that allow you to tour a location.

The rules of the prompt are simple: write a story, 150 words or less. Will you be inspired by the past of a location? Some imagined current drama? Or will you take us to some dystopian futurescape? Your only limits are your imagination.

Sambor Prei Kuk Temple, Cambodia

Sambor Prei Kuk Temple, Cambodia © Google Maps

This week, Pegman takes us to the Sambor Prei Kuk Temple in Cambodia.

Funny the places that the internet will take you…As I was working my novel-in-progress, I was trying to describe the abundance of humidity in a particular location. Which got me wondering where was the most humid location in the world? Which led me to Cambodia (among other places). And when I happened to land here, I couldn’t resist selecting this as a Pegman destination. Hope you find it inspiring too.

Your mission is to write a 150-word (or less) story about the selected destination. Feel free to wander about. You may capture your own photo to use in your post. Feel free to select from any street view or photo sphere in the vicinity.

Have fun and don’t get lost!

Samjiyon, North Korea… or not

Samji, North Korea © Google Maps

This week Pegman takes us to Samjiyon, North Korea…maybe.

When I scouted this location several days ago to prepare the post, there was no street view (unsurprisingly), but there were a half-dozen photo spheres on the North Korea side. The one I’ve provided above no longer works on the map when you search North Korea, and all but one of the photo spheres have vanished! If you zoom out you may still be able to get to a hotel room, lobby, or parking lot. All these are eerie, empty. And who knows, these locations may be taken down by the time you reach this prompt.

If that’s the case, you’re invited to select something from one of the photospheres across the border in China at the Tianci Tourism Holiday Village, where things seem considerably more lively.
